hoping to regain my credibility with my faithful blog readers...

OK, so I am REALLY sorry, Miss Bonnie. Please forgive me for all of my empty promises to update. I am finally here. It really got my attention the other day when someone told me that the last thing on my blog was Kason's haircut...and I realized that he and Karl had just left to go get ANOTHER haircut (not that it is very shocking given the rate at which the kid's hair grows.) Not only has he had another haircut, but we have had Christmas, New Years, Karl's 40th, Step Up to the Plate, a new baby, the start of Karl's 6th season at Virginia, visits from every member of my immediate family and much, much, more. I think it is time to start blogging. I guess I just need to accept that I can't do it all anymore!! I hope to give you the short version...If I am capable of that.

I will start with Christmas because I can't remember much of that or before. My pregnant brain took all my memory and ran. We had a really nice Christmas. It was just the 3 of us. We also enjoyed our annual get together with our special friends on Christmas night.

Mom came a few days after Christmas and made fast friends with Kason. They had tons of fun and she was awful sad to leave him. We were even more sad to see her go - but knew she would be back before we knew it. She provided her annual babysitting services for New Years Eve so that we could celebrate with our wonderful friends. We are just so grateful for the great friends we have made here. It was a wild and crazy time for everyone, including the 2 ton pregnant chauffer.

Karl turned 40 on January 16th. With all that we had going on, we agreed to keep things low key and celebrate with just the 3 of us. However, I surprised him with a small dinner party at our house on the evening of his birthday. I invited 8 of our close friends to share in the celebration and cooked a great meal. He was especially touched by the visit from Jon and Marcia Jaudon who drove 3 hours from Blacksburg to share his special day. Jon was Karl's Academic Coordinator when he was an athlete at Florida and they have remained very close friends for all these years. Having the Jaudon's just a few hours away has been another one of the many blessings we have been given since moving to Virginia! (Please keep Marcia in your prayers. She battled breast cancer a few years back and more was discovered just days after their visit here. She has since undergone surgery and treatments and seems to be doing well but would appreciate a little prayer here and there.) Many of you contributed to Karl's birthday celebration by sending your thoughts and well wishes. I gathered letters and stories from over 40 of his friends and aquaintances and shared them with him throughout the evening. He was really touched. Thanks to all of you that helped me with that!!!!

Karl's Step Up to the Plate dinner was a great time, too. Making it to that before popping the baby was my goal and I achieved it. I was very tired, very hot, and very uncomfortable, but I had fun and it was great to see all of the friends, family, and support of the baseball program.

Three days after that, we had the joy of bringing our second son into the world. It was a very exciting time and a fabulous experience. I didn't realize just how awful getting Kason here was! I had another c-section - and a lot better experience. I checked in the hospital around 4:20 p.m. or so and he was here by 6:43 p.m. with no hitches. I guess the only hitch was that we couldn't name him and Karl refused to call the family until we had a name. I think we had them all freaking out when they knew I had gone into surgery around 6 and didn't hear anything until 8:30 or so. We rushed to settle on a name and made the call - only to call back a few hours later and tell them we changed our mind. So Kruse Michael Kuhn it is. He weighed 7 pounds and 1 ounce (I think). He was 19.5 inches long. He looks a lot like his big brother did. His hair shows a little of his Gosdin side with a red tint - just like his brother's did - but other than that, he is all Dad. I guess I can hope for him to have blue eyes and big feet, the only traits that he may have inherited from me.

Kason is very proud of his little brother. He is the first thing he asks about every morning. He doesn't walk by him without giving him a kiss on the head. He loves to give him "bumps" and "high fives." If anything (hat, blanket, pacifier) is found he takes it to the baby. He thinks the pacifier is the answer to everything. If Kruse squeaks Kason sasy "Papsi, papsi?" and goes off looking for it. Aside from loving his brother Kason is growing like a weed (a short weed) and never shutting up. He talks non-stop and is doing a good job of making sense. He loves to dance. He is obsessed with all things ball and calls them all "football." He also loves Mickey Mouse and calls him "hot dog." Just for laughs...we went to the dr. yesterday for Kason's 18 month and Kruse's 1 month check up. The dr. was doing Kason's exam and he started showing her that his diaper had Mickey Mouse on it. Just as she was going to check "it" he pointed to his diaper and said "hot dog?" I felt like an idiot trying to convince her that he was talking about Mickey Mouse and that we had NOT named "it" Hot Dog. Oh the things that I am in for...

Daddy came and spent the first week out of the hospital with us. I don't know what we would have done without him. I couldn't pick Kason up for at least 3 weeks so he did all the heavy lifting around here. I think he had a lot of fun with his grand sons. I know that I loved having my Daddy here - and all to myself!!

The day after he left the hurricane hit - hahahaha. Jonathan, Natalie, and Cantley arrived. Kason LOVED his big cousin, Cantley, and his Uncle Jonathan. They played so hard for 5 days. I hadn't yet experienced games of chase and hide-n-seek at my house and there were many that week. Kason did not miss a step that Cantley took and copied everything she did. Between having a 4 year old little girl and a new baby in the house, he learned how to shriek with precision! It was a wild and crazy time for all. Again, thank goodness for their visit. Jonathan entertained kids and Natalie cooked and cleaned. I tended to baby and even got a few naps. We were able to get out of the house a time or two. I got to take Cantley to celebrate her birthday at Keswick Hall's afternoon tea. She loved her fancy tea party. We all had a wonderful time together. My brother and I have gained a much bigger appreciation for our mother. We discovered that Cantley, Kason, and Kruse are basically the ages that the 3 of us were - and even with 4 adults in the house, there were times that we couldn't keep up! We have no idea how she did it! We had a wonderful visit and I miss them so much since they have gone. I think they really enjoyed their time here, but left a little shell shocked after seeing what it will be like once they bring thier new little girl home in June!

The day they left, Mom arrived. She was just in time. I needed some "Mom" time. You know, your mom just knows what you need and when you need it. Not only was she helpful around the house and with Kason and Kruse, she was great company for me. Again, she and Kason got along perfectly. He had his "Nanny," as he and Cantley have taken to calling Nanna, wrapped around his finger. He asked for her for 3 days after she left.
Jeremy and Lindsey are coming this weekend. We are so excited to see them and are even more excited that they plan to stay more than 36 hours! I will post an update on this visit by the end of March at least - hahaha.

Karl's season is off to a great start. They have played 8 games and have won them all so far. Unfortunately, they have had to cancel 2 games due to the snow storm that just came through here over the weekend. They play again today and start conference play this weekend down at Wake Forest. Go Hoos - as Kason would say "U!"
As I mentioned earlier, we went for the boys' check ups yesterday. Kason continues to grow up a little and out a lot. He is now 31" tall and 25 lbs. 11 oz. He was 18 months old last week. Kruse was a month old yesterday. He is following his brother's trend with the weight and we are keeping our fingers crossed that he is going to take another path in the height catagory. He was 21" tall and weighed 9 lbs. and 3 oz. I go for my check up today. I am hoping that I am taking a different path than the two of them in the weight catagory:) Surely, mine is going down, but not fast enough!!! I am feeling great. I have taken it slow and seem to have had a great recovery so far. Kason has his 6 month check up with the allergist next week. I will let you know if there is any news there, but we anticipate things to be just the same.

I have sprinkled in a few pictures here and there. A lot of them are on my other computer or still on the camera so maybe I can add them later. Hope you aren't too disappointed by the update. Stay on my case, Miss Bonnie. I will try to do better (yeah, I have said that before.)

Other stuff

Kason got a haircut yesterday. Daddy took him to the barber.
Mommy wasn't too happy about how short it was (or the use of the clippers) but it was still an improvement from before.

We had a great time last night at the team Holiday Dinner. Kason thought the players were pretty cool. He gave them all lots of bumps and told them all about "football" and "touchdown."

The coaching staff and families celebrated at the end of the evening. We were entertained with a musical performance by the little girls. They put on their music and sang and played instruments for us. Of course, Kason decided to put on his boogie shoes and provide the back up dancing. He danced until he was so tired he was falling down.
The rest of the kids ended up joining him. It was hilarious. I tried to video it, but my camera wasn't working too well. It is really a shame that you all can't enjoy the performance.

Thanksgiving

We had a quiet but very nice Thanksgiving. We took a little walk and wagon ride on Thanksgiving morning. We went to Richmond to our cousins for lunch. Kason spent the majority of the time standing at the back door barking at the dogs or getting a music lesson from his big cousins.

On Friday evening, Kason and Karl gathered some wood and we built a fire in the outdoor fireplace and roasted marshmallows on the patio. Kason really like the marshmallows, but was pretty impatient about the roasting part. The rest of the weekend was spent working around the house.

Touchdown

A football game was on tv yesterday afternoon. The guy ran the kickoff back for a touchdown and Kason watched him every step of the way. When he got to the endzone and celebrated, Kason turned around and looked at me and did exactly what he did and just laughed and laughed. He thought he was so funny. He now does the "touchdown dance." We thought we would share...

Trip to South Carolina

We made a short trip to South Carolina this past weekend. We had tons of fun. It was great to spend time with our friends the Calvi's and we were able to meet up with my good friend, Kelli, and her family.

We did a little shopping after breakfast on Saturday. Kason wasn't too crazy about any of the shops but luckily we had his treasured football with us to keep him happy. He did love the fountain and really wanted to get in the water. I think he would have played there all day if we would have let him.

On Saturday night, we were lucky enough to get to freeze our rears off at Taylor's soccer game! Just kidding. Although it was very cold and windy, we had a great time. It was so much fun to get to see Taylor in action. She played a great game! Kason had a ball - literally...He stole "Britney Beasley's" pink soccer ball...whoever she is. We Kason tried very hard to get in the game. Karl had to pull him off the field a million times. We felt like we were back at the beach when he made all of the trips to the water and back. It must just be something that the Calvi's bring out in him.

On Sunday, we met the Daniel's/Burress's for lunch and then headed home. It was so good to catch up. Kelli and Lance have such wonderful children and Wayne and Karyl seem to really love living in SC!

"Football!"

The word of the week has been "football." I am not exagerating when I say that he has said it no less than 1000 times. He points at the tv every time he sees a football game or someone says football and he has to say "football." He says it over and over and over. It is getting so old. Tonight he started doing "touchdown." We tried to get a video that included both. You really have to pay attention and listen closely. He immediately says "football" then does "touchdown." Maybe I can get a better one later on.

Pen Park

Kason and I spent some time at Pen Park on Saturday. He loved playing with the leaves. He got his feelings hurt because he couldn't play ball with the big kids. He had fun swinging, sliding, and having a snack. We also saw his friend Benjamin there. They had fun throwing a ball. It was a beautiful day.

Walking Update

Kason's walking skills have greatly improved. However, don't be misled. This video actually captured the best he has done. Luckily, he loves his new talent and works very hard at it - falling down at least 100 times a day!

Halloween Fun

Kason was Old McDonald for Halloween. Karl really thought that he needed to be something that he likes rather than something dumb (but cute) that we picked out. As you know, he has been saying E-I-E-I (just added the O about 3 weeks ago) for months. He claps and bounces everytime he hears the music and anytime anyone mentions Old McDonald, he says EIEIEO.

He had a Fall Festival at his new school where they kids put on a parade for the parents in their Halloween costumes. He refused to wear his hat, but seemed to have fun.

After the parade we had refreshments. The curley cheese puffs were the best!! Of course, Mr. Patrick, the director of his center, was pretty funny, too.

Daddy had an alumni function and couldn't come with us so we decided to Trick-Or-Treat with all of our friends over in Redfields. As you can see, it was CRAZY!

We did more walking and talking than we did Trick-or-Treating but Kason loves his wagon so much, he didn't know he was missing out. The three pieces of candy in his bucket were plenty to take in and out a million times!!! When Karl did join us, they made up for lost time. I think he had the most fun when we got back to our neighborhood and went to see our neighbors.

I want to walk but am way too excited about it!!!

Kason has been taking an occasional 2 steps on and off for about a month now. We had decided that he was never going to get very interested. They told me this week at daycare that he had taken 3 steps on Wednesday and was standing up all the time. He took 3 or 4 this morning before we left for school. When I picked him up, Ms. Anna said that he walked about 5 or 6 feet across the room. Well, we got home and he decided to show me his skills. He is so excited. If he would settle down, he could probably walk anywhere he wanted to. Here is the latest. I will update as he gets a little more stable. (and no, I still haven't figured out how to rotate the video and please excuse the sound...it's hideous.)

Changes for Kason...

As I mentioned in an earlier post, Kason has changed daycares. We are really going to miss his other school. They were so wonderful to him and we were so lucky to be able to have him at the best place in town. Here are a few pictures of him and his special friends there on his last day:

Of course eating is his favorite activity. Second is playing - he runs the show in his room!

Ms. Zakia was his teacher when
he was a tiny baby. (L)

Ms. Ethyl is his VERY favorite and started with him in the infant room but moved with him to his current class. She even looks like fun, doesn't she! (R)

Ms. Jasmina is his newest playmate. Blowing kisses goodbye to everyone.(L).

Frances is the director and his special friend. (R)

There are so many others that he loves and will miss!!!

He did great on his first morning at his new school, too. He got right down and played, but kept an eye on Mommy to make sure she was staying, too. He did cry a little when I left, but I checked back soon after and he was fine - especially given he was in the chair getting ready for a snack!! Eating solves all of his problems.

Fall fun - football game and pumpkins

On Saturday, we went to the football game. UVa played UNC. It was a very exciting game, although we missed the best part. Kason cheered for both teams and danced to all of the music. We left at the end of the 3rd quarter to beat traffic and it was getting cold. As soon as we got in the car, UVa tied it up and they went into overtime. Luckily, we got home in time to see the rest on TV.

On Sunday afternoon, we went to Carter Mountain to get a pumpkin. They were all HUGE. We ended up with a 32 lb. pumpkin that Kason picked out himself. Actually, he was more worried about the wagon than he was the pumpkins! Here are some nice pictures from Carter Mountain. It is just a couple of miles from our house. In the second picture, you can actually see our neighborhood. It is the one toward the middle, but the furthest back. Good luck finding it in this tiny picture.

It's been a long time...

This is pathetic...and thank you, Ms. Bonnie for pointing that out. She is the blog police. We have been so busy since the summer ended that I have really fallen down on my job...AND I HAVE SO MUCH TO SHARE. It is all old news to much of you. I've been emailing more lately since I have fallen down on the blogging. I will try to update you on everything without having to write a novel...

Kason and I spent a week in LR at the end of August. I had to be at the Clinton Library for work so Kason's Big John came and hung out with him. They spent thier days watching the ducks at the Peabody and strolling downtown and by the river. Big John became an expert babysitter and knows what Kason needs better than I do. They spent so much time with the ducks that Big John scored Kason a job as the "Honorary Duck Master." He got to escort (chase) the ducks down the red carpet and back to their home for the evening. He even got to watch the breeder clip thier wings. He got a really cool certificate and a rubber duck for doing such a great job. (He actually came home with a whole family of ducks by the time he recieved gifts from the valets, from Big John, and everyone else he met!)

We got to see lots of old friends from LR while we were there. We had a special night out to dinner at the new minor league park with Karl's UALR buddies. Once again, Kason got special treatment by Mr. Valentine who gave him a bib and a ball.

From there we went to Magnolia for the weekend. Jeremy and Lindsey had three showers. It was great to see all of our friends and family. Kason had tons of fun, but mostly clung to his buddy, Big John. Riding in the little red car and the basket of the bicycles at Wes Weiser Gym was great fun, too. Uncle Jonathan taught him to drink out of the water fountain.

We came home from Arkansas just in time to turn 1 year old. That night we had a nice family dinner and birthday cake! Cleaning up after dinner took longer than making the cake and dinner and eating it all!!! Kason got a red wagon for his birthday and it is definitely his most favorite thing in the world.

Kason got his first haircut later that week. He was a champ and so was mom...(I only shed a few tears.)

We had Kason's birthday party on Sept. 7th. He had a backyard beach bash with 7 of his friends and thier families. We served BBQ and all the fixins, along with little kid food. The kids swam in Kason's kiddie pools, played in the sprinklers, and took wagon rides. The highlight was probably when Daddy put the slide to the playset in the pool. It was a hit!
Karl's year has gotten off to a good start. He has a very young team, but he is very happy with the new players and they seem very eager and willing to learn. They played a fall game against a team from Canada. They are also in the middle of the Orange and Blue World Series right now so we are already spending a good amount of time at the ballpark. I thought this was a cute picture of he and Coach O'Connor's son, Dillon. I assume this is how it will always be - the big boy telling the little boy how it is done...

Jeremy and Lindsey got married on Oct. 4th. We had a great trip to Monroe for that and really enjoyed our time with our family and hers. Here are a couple of pictures from that. (However if you would like to see the photographers pics go to http://www.mdawsonphoto.com/, click on proofing, and then Gosdin-Hendricks wedding. You can log in with your own email.) Cantley and Kason had fun. She has found that feeding him is the way to his heart. We can thank Uncle Jonathan and Aunt Natalie for teaching him to jump on the bed...now an unending battle at our house!

I am sure that I have left many other things out, but if I think of anything significant, I will make sure and post it.

In other news, I realize that although most of you have either heard or seen, I have left the news of our new addition off of the blog. Here is our little boy who is set to arrive on February 8th (or sooner). We may have a thumb sucker this time...I guess that could be better than the pacifier and sunglasses.

Also, Kason will move to a new daycare on Monday. We are excited about the move, but very sad to leave his current school. They have been wonderful to him and we really couldn't have had a better experience. I hope to have more pictures to post of his last day at school today. Here are his "school" pictures for this year. He was 13 months old.

This is all I have time for now!!!
